Duo Négro / Compaoré
Created in Marseilles by pianist Nathalie Négro, PIANOANDCO is a production structure based on contemporary music. The emphasis is put on the encounter between distinct worlds and this artistic ideal will lead to a diversity of genres. Driven by a deep creative mind, Nathalie Négro imagines projects which she always carries out in a strong connection with other artists: it is the case with drummer and percussionist Ahmad Compaoré, reputed to be an eclectic musician with an asserted open-mindedness. Thus, these two eminent representatives of the Marseilles music scene were meant to start a collaboration... Together, they explore the transmission links between art music and improvised music, showing the same appetite for exchange and interaction, which thrives on the development of a common and singular language.
NATHALIE NÉGRO: Piano
Nathalie Négro obtains her various piano prizes at the CNR of Marseilles and Nice, as well as a degree of musicology at the University of Aix-en-Provence. She has worked alongside György Kurtag, Yvonne Loriod, Claude Helffer, Pierre-Laurent Aimard and most of all American pianist Jay Gottlieb. An accomplished artist with a broad repertoire, from classical to improvised music, she is much in demand for various creations and collaborates with several ensembles such as the Capricorn Ensemble (London), Art Zoyd, Musiques Nouvelles, Ars Nova... In 2003, she created PIANOANDCO, a production structure which enables her to provide her artistic encounters with real spaces of expression.
AHMAD COMPAORÉ: Drums, percussions
Of Egyptian and Burkinabé origins, Ahmad Compaoré confirms his singular talent alongside Fred Frith, Marc Ribot, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Otomo Yoshihide, Barre Phillips or Egyptian choreographer Karima Mansour. With a constant craving for exploration and discovery, he shares his creativeness between music, dance, theatre and digital art. Twice recipient of the Culturesfrance "Hors Les Murs" award, he lived in India and Japan as part of residencies of creation. Free from boundaries, he equally enjoys the most extreme experiences in alternative and improvised music, jazz and fusion.
