Nafas
NAFAS means « breath » in literary Arabic. Vital breath, it is the force that nurtures, inspires and creates. A breath which paves the way to self-expression and captures its essence, sublimating each musician's own energy to create a new musical language while keeping a coherent whole. Thus, sense is gradually taking shape, sounds emerge into music, reaching heights of renewed inspiration. Fellow musicians from the collective Rebel Music, Ahmad Compaoré, Fred Pichot and Sylvain Terminiello have imagined a present-day music, eclectic and mixed, combining their characteristics and merging their diversity to share a vision of what music ought to be: a universal language transcending cultures and social belonging.
The NAFAS repertoire is made of original compositions and revisited traditional themes (African, oriental, gypsy or klezmer), mainly sustained by improvisation and spiced up with a touch of electro. Close musicians with a trained ear, they explore the subtlety of rhythms and sounds, setting them free to create a world where they can be recoded at any moment, dedicated to an inventive and free music...
AHMAD COMPAORÉ: Drums, percussions
Of Egyptian and Burkinabé origins, Ahmad Compaoré confirms his singular talent alongside Fred Frith, Marc Ribot, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Otomo Yoshihide, Barre Phillips or Egyptian choreographer Karima Mansour. Twice recipient of the Culturesfrance "Hors Les Murs" award, he lived in India and Japan as part of residencies of creation. Free from boundaries, he equally enjoys the most extreme experiences in alternative and improvised music, jazz and fusion.

A prolific and versatile artist, he enjoys various collaborations in jazz, electro and traditional music. His interest for jazz and ethnic music, as well as his curiosity about the evolution of electronic instruments, lead him to try out original sound combinations.
