WATT! amplifies the sound and musical echoes of a Mediterranean youth in turmoil, connected to the web and new music, hip hop leading the way. In 2012, five itinerant artistic residencies took the pulse of the capital cities of rap and new independent places in the Arab world where, from Cairo to Tunis, the artists become the spokespersons of the people's aspirations for freedom. How here, hip hop, electro-Chaabi, brass band, beatbox and the flow of Tunisian, Algerian, Syrian or American rappers collide. How elsewhere, in the situation of the Arab uprisings, music gets back to the text and an artistic speech which then regains its rightful place. A musical journey in five stopovers and as many variations of this new sound geography inspired by both American codes and the Arab world. In March 2013, the project participants will gather for scenic residencies on the Marseille-Provence territory and thus extend the exchange initiated in 2012 accross the Mediterranean.
